Full description

This is a stained glass suncatcher made using the Tiffany copper foil technique. It is entirely hand crafted, unique and very special.

This is a very proud Blackbird. A male as it has a bright yellow beak. As I was drawing my pattern one was standing on the ground feeder and I asked it to turn to profile for me so I could better shape the tail.

This is the fourth blackbird I have made. I don't use black glass unless I have to. I will explain.

It is difficult to cut, more time consuming than any other colour. Normal glass is transparent even if it needs to be on a light box and I can put it on my pattern and trace the design onto the glass. Black glass is 100% non-transparent. I have to cut the pieces first out of a transparent glass, grind them to exact shape and use those piece as tenplates for the black glass. That in itself produces less accurate pieces so takes longer to grind to shape.

But I did it and here is my lovely Mr Black (I do call them that when we are chatting) stnding on a twig and wondering when I will fill up the mealworm tray.

It hangs from a little silvery chain and is 10 cm high and 12 cm wide.

This item is absolutely unique. I never make two pieces exactly the same, I always use slightly different colours and textures of glass.
