I currently have three family members who are undergoing ongoing cancer treatment after operations. I also have friends who have gone through treatment and live to tell the tale. Many years ago my grandfather passed away after a battle with cancer. I know that cancer can be treated a lot better these days, even though there still is no cure. People can live longer and recover, but the journey is hard and that is why I want to do something to help people with cancer.
Each year, Christine Naugle from Sweet Potato 3 Designs hosts a Crochet Cancer Challenge and a group of crochet designers create crochet hat patterns that are made available for free download with a pledge to make and donate one hat to a cancer patient or a cancer care unit. I pledged my hats to Cancer Care & Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, so the originals you see here have all been pledged, but people have shown an interest in buying my hats, hence this shop.
This is a custom-made item and cannot be returned unless faulty.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
Full description
Made to Order. Handmade crochet hat using the pattern Snowflake Hat from the Crochet Cancer Challenge 2023. Available in standard beanie (with or without bobble), slouchy beanie or messy bun beanie.
This item can be customised to your needs, the colours of the yarn can be chosen by customer.
Materials used to make this hat is a worsted weight or aran yarn in a mixed colour. You can message me if you want a particular colour and I can then select a yarn for you. The yarn choice is not limited to Caron Baby Cakes, you can select other yarn cakes or even suggest a yarn and I can let you know if it's suitable for this pattern.
The example on this listing is made with Caron Baby Cakes in 'Fresh Air'
Other colour and yarn options are listed in the images.
NOTE: Using mixed yarn means that the resulting hats will differ in their appearance, based on how much yarn is used from the colour sequence in the yarn chosen.
This hat is designed and made to donate at least one hat to a cancer patient or charity in October 2023, which has been done with the first hat I've made from this pattern.
Therefore, the exact hat shown in the photo is no longer available, but new made to order, custom hats will be made from your chosen yarn.
