Item details
Inspired by the colours and textures of the coast. I developed my own technique of replicating lichen using embellished recycled textiles with shell motifs created using a combination of machine and hand embroidery. I combine these with concrete cast in plastic waste to form sculptures that highlight climate crisis issues. Over lockdown, I couldn't get into the studio where I cast so started making more of my textile only pieces mounted over old canvases from charity shops called "Coastal Dreams" as being based in Manchester, I knew I wasn't the only one dreaming of trips to the beach.
As my embellishing technique takes a long time, I developed this range of homeware using the alternative technique of applique. Still all handmade using old clothing but quicker so can provide at a lower price.
