I love to collect pebbles on the sea shore, and to examine how the sea can produce smooth surfaces, or ingrain them with shingle and shells. This was the inspiration for making this art piece - with its own collection of hand made tiny pebbles, each one made from a tiny piece of stoneware clay and carefully positioned in the nooks and crannies of the piece before firing twice.
For display purposes only, not for food/drink use. Please use a mat to protect painted or polished surfaces.

Love the sea, beachcombing, wave-washed pebbles, shells in your pocket and sand in your toes? This ceramic sculptural artwork will bring it home to you… Fill with dried flowers and driftwood twigs, or display a small houseplant in its pot. Or just love it as it is.
Inspired by the way tiny pebbles wedge themselves into rocks and driftwood, I made this piece from stoneware clay, to form a container, then handmade each tiny pebble shape from a mixture of black and white clay and decorated the form with them. I introduced further seashore texture into the surface, and glazed the inside with a speckled lustre finish so that you can use the piece as a vase for dried flowers. Or to fill with your favourite shells and little driftwood forms. You will see from the images that the design is finished differently on each side, so choose which way you like it to face! With the natural matt finish of the fired black stoneware clay on the outside, shiny glaze inside and the decorative textures and tiny pebbles, this is a striking one-off piece for your own home or to give as a present for someone who loves the sea. Oval base, asymmetric shape, natural black clay exterior, 15 x 9 x 10cms high.
