Full description
Owls have long been associated with courage, protection and wisdom, and there is much myth and folklore surrounding these mysterious creatures of the night. This hand made ceramic sculpture connects with that symbolism and mythology. Over the past few years I have created a body of work dedicated to and inspired by the owl, each has its own personality and potency.
This owl is one of three in which I explore a smaller scale, but the personality of each has not diminished because of there more diminutive size! They may be small, but they are fierce...to misquote Shakespeare!
A hand formed ceramic sculpture. Crafted in a sculptural terracotta clay.
Surface decorated with incised marks which are emphasised with a considered application of white slip and underglazes.
Fired to 1160 degrees centigrade.
