Inspiration
We regularly see Great spotted woodpeckers at our bird feeding station here at Bramble Cottage. They are quite shy so it is hard to get close enough to take a photo. As soon as they see you they take off in the direction of the woods with their typical dip and dive flight pattern.
I wanted to add a woodpecker to my garden bird collection. I used artists quality coloured pencils and pastels to pick up all those deep colours. If you look closely you will see the little flash of deep red on his head to indicate he is a male.
