Welcome to Oxford Clay. All pottery materials are mined from the earth. The more I practised pottery and learned about the raw materials used, the more I wondered whether pottery could be made without harming the earth's animals, people or environment.
After spending a year researching and testing different clay and glaze recipes, I finally found the perfect clay and glaze recipe for the pottery at Oxford Clay. Oxford Clay pottery uses only ingredients that are non-toxic and cause minimal ecological harm.
I created a special mix of clays from Devon, Dorset and Cornwall in the UK, and a glaze made from recycled wood ash. I learned about the different ways animal products are used in pottery and excluded these from my practice.
I removed all animal-based tools (such as fur paint brushes, leather and marine sponges) and ingredients (such as animal bone ash) from all Oxford Clay’s products, making them 100% vegan-friendly.
