Vintage linens & cottons are soft & beautiful with a wonderful sense of history, as such, they have become very collectible. Historically, ladies had a what was called a “hope chest”, full of items for the home, such as tablecloths, handkerchiefs, pillowcases & napkins to name but a few. The linens were often embroidered with floral designs, embellished with cutwork, crochet & lace. It is these linens from the mid 1900s that are loved by those who value authentic & original pieces of the past.
Today, what we consider ‘vintage loveliness’ would have, back in the 1900’s been thought of as just ordinary & everyday. Understandably, not all are in pristine condition, but this makes them perfect for re-purposing & bringing forgotten fabrics back to life.
So..this beautiful cushion cover has been made from a hand embroidered vintage tablecloth. The condition of all the embroidery is really amazing & the flower design is just stunning. The edging is a lovely deep gold fringing. This cushion cover will be unique, as, although I have made four cushions from the cloth, they all have different colour fringing. The reverse of the cushion is plain cream with zip.
