Full description
This lovely Yew wood rollerball twist pen is hand made on Orkney. The wood for this slender pen came from a storm damaged tree that was reputed to be several hundred years old, and has spent the last 20 years seasoning in my workshop.
Hand crafted in my workshop overlooking the sea, the wood is finished with a very durable satin polish. The satin chrome tip, pocket clip, centre band and top finial compliment the colour of the wood, which changes from a rich red-brown through to a soft pale tan with lines of spalting through the grain. Spalting occurs when a fungus infects the wood of the living tree, then leaves dark lines through the wood when the fungus dies as the wood is dried. I have turned this pen so the barrels are at their widest at the centre, the slender shape of the pen making it very easy to hold.
The pen weighs 24g, is 133mm long, 15mm wide and uses a Cross refill (black ink supplied).
