Inspiration
As a wildlife artist I like to draw and paint the animals which surround my rural Shropshire home. We have a patch of woodland close to our cottage. Although I have never seen a Little Owl. I have heard them. They are widely found in the Shropshire countryside. Often nesting in tree cavities.
I am also drawn to the folklore that surrounds certain animals. The Little Owl is associated with the ancient gods Athena and Mineva and have long been used to represent wisdom.
I had an amazing reference photo. I do however always like to give my drawings and paintings a personal flourish. For this drawing I used lots of detail in the head and feet but gave a softer look to the rest of the owl and added splashes and lines to give a windswept and wild look.
