Full description
This bookmark was created as an experiment in using up yarn trimmings - I am trying to get as close as possible to 'zero waste' in my craft work. Whilst very pretty it was very time consuming to make and is unlikely to be repeated.
A bookmark composed of lengths of yarn, felted to an eco felt background, and stitched to resemble woven cloth, trimmed by a tail of coordinating ribbons.
Yarn snippets were hand felted to an 'eco' felt (commercially produced from recycled bottles) background - blue yarn alternating with the other colours featured in the blanket. Rows of small running stitches in cotton threads were then worked down the bookmark, stitching over alternate lengths of 'weft' the colours chosen to replicate the 'warp' colours. These 'warp threads' were stitched with alternate rows beginning over 'weft one' or 'weft two' to imitate a woven design. Backstitching, in a fine blue thread, has securely anchored the 'weft threads' down each long edge of the bookmark. The bookmark is backed with felt. Ribbon tails complete the design.
Length of embroidered panel - 14 cm approx.
Total length - 20.5 cm approx.
