Full description
This hand embroiderd plaque features a cozy little cottage set in a snowy landscape. Most of the materials used are remnants, snippets from other projects, commercial remnants or carefully collected vintage supplies. I take care to sew as sustainably as possible!
Details of the design have been stitched in threads and fine wools, some of them vintage. A hint of frosty snow has been created with silver metallic thread. A fancy yarn with a metallic thread gives a golden glow to the windows. The snowy field is cut from white felt and overlaid with lace. The foreground has been cut from hand made 'art fabric' created from snippets of lace, yarn and fabric snippets. The conifer in the foreground has been cut from a second 'art fabric' composed of green wool fibres, with a sprinkling of yarn and thread offcuts and hand embroidery. White and silver snowflakes are stitched over the scene.
I have done my best to photograph this item accurately but monitor settings may cause variation in colour.
The back of the plaque is neatened with thick whitel 'felt' - a commercial remnant; and a hanging loop, of hand made hemp cord, is securely stitched in place.
Height (excluding hanging loop) - 12.5 cm approx.
