Aquamarine, named from the Latin for seawater, is the pale blue-to-blue-green member of the beryl family.
In folklore it is linked to the sea, and sacred to the sea-god Neptune.
It was believed to calm the waves and bring protection and good luck to sailors and fishermen.
Aquamarine represented not only the sea, but also the heavens since the sky reflected in the water. It was believed that this reflective property could reveal hidden aspects of reality and things deep within our souls. This made aquamarine a popular stone with healers, shamans and mystics.
Aquamarine is the birthstone for March and Pisces, and the stone for the 19th wedding anniversary.

Gorgeous blue earrings featuring a 6mm round Aquamarine bead, a 6mm faceted AAA Kyanite coin and a pair of 3.5mm micro-faceted AA Aquamarine beads.
The Kyanite coin is highlighted with two 2.5mm sterling silver rounds.
The Aquamarine beads are semi-opaque, with a soft, light blue colour.
The Kyanite is semi-transparent and a more intense green-blue with the typical almost fibrous appearance of this stone.
Kyanite rarely exhibits a single shade of colour, and if you look into the stone, it appears to have streaks of deeper colour within it, giving a dramatic effect.
The beads are threaded onto sterling silver headpins, and hung from sterling silver ear-wires.
The wires are stamped '925'.
These drop earrings measure a little over 1 inch (2.75 cm), excluding the wires.
Your earrings will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a small organza gift bag.
Price includes delivery within the UK.
