The Kindred Collection is the result of many happy hours examining ancient Minoan and Cycladic votive objects in museums of Crete and Rhodes. The decorative motifs and patterns reflect my interest in textile design from the early 20th century. It’s an interesting fusion of form and decoration!

Full description
An abstract sculptural ceramic with echoes of the human form, ‘James’ is from my Kindred Collection and makes a striking focal point in your living space. Kindred pieces can also be used as a focus of contemplation during yoga and mindfulness meditation, their simple forms promoting a receptive mindset for practice. I created the piece from black stoneware clay, and added decorative panels and motifs in muted shades of grey/white and two tones of green. There are different but related motifs back and front of the form. As a finishing touch I used the sgraffito technique to score a curving line through the colour in two places to reveal the natural matt black clay beneath. Each piece in the Kindred Collection is different because each is entirely handmade – I don’t use moulds or transfers. So, each has a personality of its own, and a name, this one is James. 19cms high.
