In Scandinavian or Nordic folklore the Tomte or Nisse are creatures that reside in barns and homes to bring protection. These mischievous characters can be shapeshifters in some folklore or hold the spirit of the first farmers in others.
Western folklore has named these Gonks or Gnomes but whichever name you choose to use, their meaning stays the same and that is to protect and watch over your homestead and all that reside within it.

The first of our element inspired Gonks, Earth is rich in an array of warm browns and greens. Made using Bamboo fibres which give a wonderful shine, perfect for catching the morning light.
His base colour is a rich chocolate Merino wool and his wonderfully full beard is 100% British wool locks which match the tip of his hat.
Each of our Gonks are handmade, making every last one completely unique.
Measuring 18 inches tall and 10 inches wide, this Gonk is strong enough to hold open a door or imposing enough to stand alone to watch over your home.

Being out in nature embraces a way of slowing down and being at one with yourself.
No cuddle is better then that of a woodland and I wanted to bring in that feeling of protection and slow living into a piece. The Gonk/ Tomte/ Nisse was the perfect manifestation for this due to its long history as a protector against misfortune.

Inspired by the beautifully rich colours of the element's, Earth, Water, Air and Fire. I wanted to create something which gives part of the feeling that a walk in nature gives you but whilst you are cuddled up on the sofa or working hard at your desk.
