Iolite is the gemstone name for the mineral Cordierite.
The name comes from the Greek 'ios' meaning violet, and the colour is similar to the more expensive stone Tanzanite.
It is sometimes referred to as 'water Sapphire', although it bears no mineral relationship to Sapphire.
It is often used as a more affordable substitute for Tanzanite and, like Tanzanite, comes under the birthstone list for December and Sagittarius.
It is believed to bring clarity by balancing emotional and rational thought, and to enhance intuition and communication.

Added to the Seconds Sunday sale as an old line rather than having any imperfections.
Dainty necklace made from polished and frosted 4mm light Grey Agate beads with 3.5mm Iolite rondelles and a 10mm Swarovski 'Tanzanite' crystal heart set between six sparkly Swarovski crystal bicones of the same colour.
Tiny 2.5mm gold vermeil round beads add a bright shine.
The translucent, light violet coloured Iolite rondelles are roughly faceted and give a subtle glint in the light.
The necklace fastens with a Tibetan heart toggle clasp in an antique gold finish,
The clasp is nickel and lead free.
This choker-style necklace measures approximately 15.25 inches (39cm).
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
