Jewellery boxes are made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Jewellery box inserts are made from tall oil, a by-product of wood pulp industry. All paper, card, glue, inks and delivery boxes used are made from recycled materials.
I love collecting things discarded, lost, forgotten, damaged or just not wanted any more. My favourite places are rivers and beaches, but also find great things at recycling centres and charity shops. I’m lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-created into something new. Bits and bobs of lives all waiting to find new homes.

Additional terms
Hand crafted Jewellery and framed artworks using pre loved and discarded ceramics. Ceramic material will show signs of wear and damage. Entire process is a creative experience from discovery to final picture, nothing planned or preconceived. All materials personally collected from river banks, charity shops, roadside, woods, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each titled piece comes with bio of where the ceramic came from, known history, original information and when the artwork was created. Some ceramics collected are used as found, while others are cut randomly which will shape the final picture. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece.

Created from ceramic discovered in
Thorsgill Beck, near Barnard Castle July 2021
Re-Created into Pendant September 2022
In July 2021 while out walking Thorsgill Beck which runs into the River Tees, Barnard Castle, Co Durham I came across a small concentration of broken bits of pottery. A common practice of shoring up a river bank is to use crushed household ceramics as hardcore. On this sunny day I found quite a few pieces of plates in one concentrated spot. The pieces were dirty and looked lost in the water for a long time. After soaking some were still stained, others cleaned well and all came back to life.
I found a piece of blue and white ceramic, the shape suggested a plate/saucer. Stained and damaged the piece was difficult to work with. I broke the ceramic into smaller bits, more of the glazed pattern broke off but left two interesting shards. Using the exact shapes formed I managed to make both into small pendants. This piece is a distinctive shape, front glaze in tact, back glaze partially damaged.
The idea is to create something new from old. The finished pieces isn't meant to be perfect or highly polished but instead retain part of the original character.
