In making platters, I like to use simple shapes to create a soft form. I’m inspired by textile designs from the early 20th century and like to use the minimum of tools – I think handmade should be just what the words themselves mean!

Full description
A decorative handmade platter in black stoneware clay, this striking piece of art can be used as to display fruit, nuts, a key collection, or perhaps for showing off your seashore treasures. I formed the piece from a rectangle of soft clay, with all sides slightly curving upwards. I decorated each end with abstract motifs reminiscent of tree trunks or bamboo, in shades of blue and green against the matt black background of the natural clay. The plate's central panel is glazed in a high gloss olive green. Fired twice with a final firing of 1185 degrees C. Underneath is my potter’s mark of a swallow in flight impressed into the clay. A one-off piece that is totally unique, and which will look good in contemporary interiors. Size 21.5cms x 19.5 cms.
