Rooks are a common sight here in Cumbria, they are a sociable bird and can often be seen in large groups among the sheep and cattle in the fields. If you see a colony of large twig nests in trees, that would be a rookery. The birds are quite angular in appearance, some would say sinister, though I find them quite distinguished, like avian country gents.

In this painting I have tried to capture the bird in typical strutting pose. At first glance their plumage is black, but if you manage to get a close look, you will see they have a velvety purple, even green, sheen. They also have a distinctive pale patch on their beak.

Full description

A4 giclee print of a rook, taken from one of my original paintings in acrylic paint. The painting has been professionally scanned and then printed on to museum grade fine art paper, acid free Hahnemuhle German etching 310 gsm. That’s probably the best paper available, fade resistant and should last a lifetime!

Each print is A4 size, with a small white border, and will fit into any A4 mount / frame. I like them in simple black frames which are very reasonably priced at ikea and other outlets. A mock-up of how this could look is shown, along with alternative frame options. Also shown is Jackdaw, a companion piece, a print also available in my listings.

The print is unsigned, but if requested I can certainly add a title and / or signature. It will be sent with a card backing in a protective cellophane packet, in a sturdy cardboard envelope.
