A pretty, hand-painted, needle book, entirely hand-stitched from vintage textiles and featuring a portion of hand painted, vintage lace, together with hand painted and hand dyed fabrics.

A panel of hand painted lace was hand stitched to the cover - cut from a portion of vintage sheeting painted to match the lace. The cover has been lightly quilted using white cotton thread to provide rows of quilting stitches, on either side of the lace panel and to add texture to the back of the cover and the 'spine' of the book. The cover is finished by an edging of blanket stitch in the same white thread.

The needle book is lined in a green and cream vintage checked fabric. Two pieces of vintage soft flannelette are folded and securely stitched in place, to provide four 'pages' for your needles and pins. The needle case closes by a button hole stitch loop over a white button.

I decided to use silk paints on some small pieces of vintage lace. I laid a piece of plain vintage sheeting over my table top and applied the paint to the lace on top of the fabric. The result was randomly painted background fabric, exactly matching the painted lace in colour palette. The back of the needlebook is part hand dyed vintage fabric in a matching shade. The 'pages' were cut from vintage flannelette sheeting.
