I'm always so inspired by the flowers in my garden, other people's gardens, and public gardens. The photo was taken on 1st February.
I love the delicate vulnerability of snowdrops, and also their resilience, in appearing often during the harshest times of winter. I wanted them to be the main focus of the piece even though they are the smallest flowerheads in reality.
The background paper is handmade and was gifted to me many years ago. The earthy bronze background is deli paper (light waxed paper) as is the vermillion border. The stems and cornus branches are watercolour paper and the white honesty seedheads and snowdrops flowers are cartridge paper.
Each flower shape is cut out by hand and arranged before gluing in place.
