Amethyst is the birthstone for Aquarius and February, and the stone for the 6th and 33rd wedding anniversary.
It is also associated with St Valentine, who arranged marriages for young soldiers at a time when such marriages had been outlawed by Emperor Claudius II, who believed unwed men made better warriors.
It is said that Valentine wore an Amethyst ring engraved with a cupid so that the soldiers could recognise him.
Valentine was martyred on 14th February 269, and canonised in 496.

Full description
These pretty, sparkly earrings are made from a 6mm amethyst bead, a 4m mother of pearl round highlighted with tiny gold vermeil beads, and topped with a pair of Swarovski crystals in a colour called "light amethyst".
They catch the light beautifully.
The ear-wires and pins are made of gold vermeil, which is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and the wires are stamped "925".
They measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) excluding the wires.
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
