This clutch bag has been made using a rare vintage fabric called 'Bird and Thistle' from the high-end design house GP & J Baker. It features sweet, small song birds and a butterfly set amongst trailing stems of thistles and other plants and berries.

The inner fabric is a modern furnishing fabric of trailing oak leaves in complementary shades of brown, green and blue all set on a pale cream background. The inside features a handy pocket in which you can store a mobile phone of credit card holder.

Both outer and inner fabric layers have been lined with pure cotton wadding and interlining to provide extra body and plumpness to the bag.

The bag opening features a cream zip to which a rayon tassel in a pale cream colourway has been attached to act as a handy pull.

The bag measures approximately 30 cm wide and 22.5 cm tall.

This is a rare pattern licensed now by Brunschwig & Fils and GP & J Baker. The graceful, delicate design is an adaptation of an English textile made in 1785. The original design (in red) was used as curtains and a bedcover by Henry Francis du Pont at Winterthur, his country estate in Delaware.

The pattern has been sourced from these bed hangings dated between 1770-1790, featuring an English Toile Cloth design which is now at the Winterthur Museum, Delaware in the US.

I only had enough of this rare vintage print to make two storage baskets (small and medium one has recently sold) and this is the final piece made up into a stylish but delicately patterned clutch bag - very sad that I do not have any more!
