After years of not really wearing or making earrings because they were covered by my shoulder length hair, lack of haircuts due to lockdowns and other restrictions means I now have long hair which is invariably scraped back into a scrunchie. Staring at my own head and shoulders on endless video call meetings and chats means I've become obsessed with the extravagant, colourful and characterful earrings I can now wear, and these and my other earrings in the collection are the result.
These earrings began with the beads - I pulled out some of my favourite Miyuki Delica colours and finishes to make a really summery, retro mix which reminded me of classic ice cream pastels, and then designed the pattern and shape around it. The beads are picked up on a fine needle one at a time and woven into a stiff fabric using a specialist thread, using a beadweaving technique called peyote stitch. They're really fun to make and wear.
