Enamels are all about the play of light so I like to work on clear enamel to allow the copper base to add sparkle. The depth of colour lets the brown set off the contrast with the golden brown beneath the clear layer. Millefiore work generates its own sparkle but again the transparent sections of the panes used here add their own dimension to the sparkle of this brooch.

Full description
Two white millefiore panes are set over a ground of golden copper under brown enamel to decorate this oval brooch.
I have built up several layers of clear enamel on the oval copper base, then added a layer of brown through which the copper shimmers. The two millefiore panes are made up of white and clear glass, through which the gold tones of the copper base also sparkle.
The oval measures 28mm by 37mm. I have soldered a 26mm brooch bar to it, placed centrally along the length so the brooch may be worn in either direction, broad or narrow. The pin secures with a rotating safety catch.
