The earliest known object made from a material that resembles aventurine glass was found in Iran and dates to the 12th century, although there are some who think it may have been used in Rome in the 1st century.
A Venetian glassmaker, however, would argue that the technique was developed in Murano in the 17th century.
Other tales say it was discovered by accident by an alchemist trying to turn copper into gold, or by an apprentice monk knocking copper shavings into a vat of molten glass...

Pretty, delicate stretch bracelet made from beads of white shell that shimmer with mother-of-pearl, sparkly midnight-blue aventurine glass and small copper beads.
Aventurine glass, also known as goldstone, is a manmade substance, perfected in 17th century Venice, and made by dissolving a metal compound in molten glass that is then allowed to cool very slowly so that highly reflective metallic crystals form, suspended in the glass.
The best known is brown goldstone, where the metal compound is copper based. The blue version uses cobalt, and has a sparkle that is silvery-blue, like stars in the night sky.
This bracelet measures approximately7 inches (17.5cm).
Delivery is free within the UK.
Presented in a small organza bag.
