I have always loved animals and making sculptures in clay. Since living in the countryside I have developed an interest in animals connected to the countryside, hares in particular.
I use photographs and drawings as my main reference when designing and making my hare sculpture. I find this is a good way to help capture their unique features and characteristics. I use my drawings to create a sculpture in my own style.

Full description
This Grey Moon Gazing Hare is an original hand painted design and makes a delightful ornamental figure.
I slip cast the moon gazing hare in earthenware clay in a plaster piece mould I have produced from my original hare sculpture.
After a bisque firing, I have hand painted the moon gazing hare with various tones of grey underglaze colours, applying the underglaze using brushes and sponges to achieve a layered textured look of the hare fur coat.
The Grey Moon Gazing hare is finished with a gloss glaze and fired to a temperature just above 1100°c
