I have always loved animals and making sculptures in clay. Since living in the countryside I have developed an interest in animals connected to the countryside, hares in particular.
I use photographs and drawings as my main reference when designing and making my hare sculpture. I find this is a good way to help capture their unique features and characteristics. I use my drawings to create a sculpture in my own style.

This Grey Laying Hare is an original hand painted design and makes a delightful ornamental figure.
I slip cast the hare in earthenware clay using a plaster piece mould I have made from my original laying hare sculpture.
After a bisque firing I hand paint the laying hare with underglazes, mixing various grey tones and applying them using brushes and sponges to achieve a layered fur coat of a hare.
The laying hare is finished with a clear gloss glaze and fired to a temperature just above 1100°c
