Glorious June! In the hedgerows and fields all around Bramble Cottage are the floaty and effervescent dandelion clocks. To many they are a weed but look more closely and they are magical. The sight of them takes me straight back to my childhood and the ' he loves me, he loves me not ' game of lightly blowing away the seeds to reveal the answer.
Of course you would have to be very lucky to see a harvest mouse climbing one like this but it gives you an idea of how small these little creatures are. Sometimes I see shrews and mice running across the lanes from one hedgerow to another. My cat Spike certainly knows they are there !
The original image was drawn using artists coloured pencils on pastel paper. The luminosity of the frothy dandelion clock was achieved using fine white gel pens.
