An oriental-style bowl with a gloss blue and olive glaze. The glaze was applied in several layers and has pooled to blue where thick. The centre of the base is slightly raised to make the raised hand stamp visible. It was thrown with a UK stoneware and shaped octagonal while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This wheel thrown bowl would be perfect for display, for cooking or for serving food.
-: All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- This bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 17cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9722
I really enjoy the whole process of throwing and shaping bowls. There is plenty of scope for freedom of expression with regard to form, there is an upper surface for interesting glaze patterns and an underside for adding an element of pleasure. When the bowl is turned over a gloss olive brown over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P will be seen. The bowl was fired with a chun glaze over an iron-rich glaze and is gloss olive where thin. Where the glaze has pooled it is pale blue and blue-grey. The centre is stamped with a raised hand trying to appear through the blue-grey chun glaze. This bowl would make an Oriental statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly functional for cooking and serving a favourite recipe.
