After years of not really wearing or making earrings because they were covered by my shoulder length hair, lack of haircuts due to lockdowns and other restrictions means I now have long hair which is invariably scraped back into a scrunchie. Staring at my own head and shoulders on endless video call meetings and chats means I've become obsessed with the extravagant, colourful and characterful earrings I can now wear, and these and my other earrings in the collection are the result.
These earrings began with the teardrop shaped frame, which swings freely from the ear wire and creates lovely movement. To give weight and colour I then stitched individual tiny Japanese delica beads to the frame, and then added layers of Japanese seed beads and Czech fire polished beads in increasingly large sizes to form a simple arched fan shape. Finally some gorgeous Czech semi-opaque tear drops form an extravagant, slightly ruffled fringe. They're really fun to make and wear.
