The thistle – perhaps because of its prickliness?! – is a symbol of perseverance, of overcoming adversity. In Celtic religions, it was considered to represent courage and strength. It became the symbol of Scotland as far back as the 1200s. Certainly its colour-scheme of purple and green evokes images of the Scottish landscape, with its rolling hills and heather-clad mountains.

Full description
A busy bee is visiting a stately thistle flower. The thistle is the national flower of Scotland, of course, and I've given this panel a Caledonian feel with the tartan silk I've used for the border.
The colours of the tartan set off the purple thistle perfectly, and I've added a bit of glitz to the bee by using a gold mesh fabric for its wings. The design is created in stained glass patchwork, and each patch of fabric is edged with black bias binding; the binding was a perfect way, too, to add stripes to the yellow body of the bee!
I've added some hand embroidery to the leaves and the flower-head, to create extra texture, and the whole panel is backed and bound in plain black fabric.
A hidden casing at the top back of the quilt will hold your own batten/hanging pole.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a large jiffy bag. Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
Size: c13 x 18 1/2in (33 x 47cm)
