When my children were born we began our Waldorf journey. As my two strong, clever girls grew, I found myself drawing and creating pieces for them, nurturing their relationship with nature.
Waldorf Family was created in October 2018 to share these products with friends and family. From these cottage industry roots, Waldorf Family has grown expeditiously and is now selling its products worldwide.
I still work from my home studio, but Waldorf Family now has manufacturing, fulfilment and warehousing in Herefordshire and Berkshire.
Waldorf Family ethos
Rudolf Steiner reacted to industrialization and materialism by idealizing the craftspeople of the middle ages: he advocated and sought spiritual renewal for the creators and inhabitants of the built environment. This idea that the objects we own can be art and can vivify our homes is dear to my heart. I am sharing my art with you to help bring joy and connection because #artmatters

How to teach children to tell the time?
You can enjoy the beautiful rainbow colours on this teaching clock as your child investigates the illustrations. The clock travels through a variety of activities, resonating with a childs rhythm of the day.
It is worth asking children why the moon might be in the centre of the clock? Of course as adults we know the 12 hour clock will travel twice round the numbers in one day: but this concept is one worth exploring with children as they learn.
We have aligned the hands to point directly to the hours or minutes to help children tell one from the other. The minute and hour hand are also deliberately different colours to help differentiation.
We have included the numbers 1-60 to help children spot that 60 minutes are in one hour - but this can also be helpful when explaining the idea of seconds.
Finally we have written out a number of common phrases to tell the time around the outer edge, they could independently use these phrases to create a time sentence when they are ready.
Created on 9mm FSC approved sustainable garnicia plywood the hands are also Garnicia wood, held in place with a brass binding pin. Everything we create, from the product to the packaging is all sustainble and recylcable.
