Starfish, also known as sea stars, are found on the seabed in all the world’s oceans, from tropical to polar. There are around 1,500 different species; most of them have five arms (or legs, whichever you like to call them), so I’ve created mine in this classic shape.

A celebration of the British seaside, in an eye-catching colour-scheme of purples, mauves and ochres.
I’ve made the quilt from 16 starfish blocks, bordered with a sand/shell print and bound in mauve batik. I created the blocks by machine-stitching rough-edged starfish shapes onto background squares, then cutting each square into four diagonally and re-piecing the sections into new blocks. This technique is known as ‘stack and whack’ (honestly!), and produces a really interesting final design.
Once I’d joined the starfish blocks I free-machine-quilted the background in a bubble design, and the borders are machine-quilted in wavy lines to echo the lines of sand.
A hidden casing at the top back will hold your own batten/hanging pole, or the quilt would make a wonderful sofa throw to add a splash of colour and texture to your living room.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a cardboard box (recycled when possible). Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
