I've always struggled drawing horses and a couple of years ago I bought a beautiful book that shows, among other things, how to draw a stylised horse.
I've only recently started using Promarker pens to draw and wanted to experiment with a more illustrative style of work.
As I drew each illustration, the story built up around the horses, with no real compass as to where they were going.
'Free Spirits' was my first horse illustration and using a limited colour pallette of burgundy, green and grey.
'The Great Escape' is a glimpse of a time when we lived in the grounds of a castle (not in the castle itself) where the stables, woodland and wildlife were all in walking distance.
