I have a background in fashion and textiles so I love the idea of creating a fabric effect in paint. I remember my mother speaking about 'shot silk' and how romantic that sounded. It is a beautiful effect when you see it for the first time. The raised metallic paint adds another texture. My daughter does own this bag so I could sketch from life the shape and folds. Who knows there may be more in this series.

Full description
Blue silk handbag painting features a 'shot silk' purse style evening bag with an oxidised silver raised effect, decorative chain fixed to a silver coloured rigid top. There is a twist ball clasp. The fabric is shot through with magenta tones. The background is left white with shadowing at the base. I painted this in my Norfolk studio and it is mounted and sealed. The overall measurements are 38.5cm x 30.5cm and the internal image measures 26cm x 19cm. This one is called Harriet's Handbags II'. Could you add this one to your collection of handbags?
