I wanted to create a pair to the 'stained glass gerbera' using water soluble pencils and the iris petals lent themselves perfectly to being segmented as you would see it in stained glass. I have allowed the purple pigment to sink to the bottom of the petals the way stained glass does. I really enjoyed using the soluble pencils for this effect althoug I haven't had the urge to use them again, but never say never.

Full description
Purple iris painting features 2 iris heads, leaves and a bud.Each section of the flower is separated with a thick watercolour pencil line which resembles a stained glass effect. The leaves are emerald green and blue with a pop of lemon/yellow on the irises. The cream background is plain and the eye is focused one the subject. I painted this in my Norfolk studio, it is mounted, elegantly framed in lime-washed wood and ready for you to hang. The painting measures 34cm square totally with the internal image at 16cm square. I call this one 'Stained Glass Iris
