Freesias were my mum's favourite flowers so I always associate them with her. I have made may sketches over the years as I need to start each painting from that point. I used a fine ink outline to stop the white freesias getting lost in the watery backdrop. The outer background is watercolour fest of sepia, sienna, and ochre. The best bit for me was discovering enamel paint that I could use straight out of the tube, hence the squiggly raised border. Great fun and a touch of luxury.

Full description
An original watercolour painting of white freesias edged with ink in a stylised gilt, glazed vase. There is a pale watery backdrop of muted blues, browns and grey. Overlaid on that is a border of raised luxurious gold work. Behind that is a final edging of stronger yellow ochre, sepia and burnt umber tones. This piece was painted in my Norfolk studio. It is mounted and elegantly framed in lime-washed wood which is ready to hang. The painting has an overall measurement of 72cm x 55cm with the internal image being 52cm x35cm. I have called this one Golden Edged Freesia. It could lend a touch of luxury to any space or make a unique golden wedding anniversary gift.
