I always feel that lilies are such an Art Noveau style of flower and I do love the organic fluidity of all things Art Noveau. Seeing Gaudi's work in Barcelona blew me away. The interiors of his buildings are just as incredible.
All my paintings start with a sketch from life and I have built up quite a collection of sketch books over the years. Working on canvas means I can create a texture for the movement of the petals which I can enhance with watercolour detail.

Full description
An original white iris painting on canvas featuring 3 blooms, 2 buds and a leaf. The art-work was created in my Norfolk studio where I used gouache to achieve the folds and crinkles of the papery petals and for the background which continues around the edge. I painted the detail and shadow with my favourite watercolour. The background is an atmospheric mix of burnt sienna and Prussian blue tones allowing the lilies to take centre stage. The painting measures 70cm 50cm x 1.5cm and is ready to hang. The colours are very subtle offering maximum chances to join in with your own colour scheme. I have called this one Iris study II
