Mysterious and magical, wild and secretive, and surrounded by folklore, how can anyone not be intrigued?
I’ve loved Hares since I was a young child watching a Hare family in the grassy meadow along the lane. I was hiding in the hedge and they had no idea I was there, I could even see the leverets!
At the time, I had no idea just how lucky I was to see this sight and this picture is my attempt to re-create that feeling of watching something truly special.

A detailed hand embroidered portrait of a wild Hare.
This is a hand stitched image of one of my favourite subjects - a wild Hare. In this picture the Hare is keeping a careful watch with that amber eye.
I've stitched him with individual strands of embroidery thread using a technique that I call 'drawing with threads' - a combination of long and short stitches that gradually builds up the picture with lots of detail. There's a hint of wild grasses in the background and he's also got some gold thread whiskers for good measure.
The frame is wooden with an antiqued gilt finish that has just the right amount of texturing to compliment and show off the wild Hare. The piece of work measures approx 5x5 cms and the frame measures just over 17.5x17.5 cms, and has been strung on the back. I photographed it in natural light without the glass for clarity, and with the glass in place to protect the work, it is ready for displaying.
An ideal gift for a nature watcher, a fan of our Hares ar a treat for yourself.
