I love every aspect of the natural world, from its landscapes and colours to its plants and wildlife - and I especially love trees.
This Winter Tree wave is inspired by the beautiful structure of winter trees silhouetted against a pale winter sky. As a keen hiker, walking through the South Wales countryside often sparks ideas for fused glass projects; I snap away on my phone (which is full of pictures of trees!) as I walk along, capturing scenes which I later use back in my workshop.
My intention with this piece was to capture a snapshot of an atmospheric winter scene which can be admired and enjoyed all year round.

Full description
This made to order fused glass wave depicting winter trees in a snowy landscape attempts to capture an atmospheric wintry scene. The intricate structure of trees when stripped of their leaves always fascinates me as their shapes are all so completely different. The ones on this piece are entirely hand-painted so no stencils or screen-printing techniques have been used to produce them.
The Winter Tree wave with its gorgeous aqua sky, would make a striking addition to any room. It can be placed on a windowsill so that when the sun shines through the glass, the colours of the scene are thrown onto the surface in front of it, or can be displayed against a plain pale wall where its colours and the trees themselves can be appreciated in their true brightness.
Making the wave is a lengthy and fiddly process. I start by cutting and layering sheet glass which is then fused together in my kiln overnight. More glass is added and the trees carefully painted before firing a second time; once it has cooled, the piece is fired for the final time to get its curved shape.
The free-standing wave measures 25cm wide, 13cm high and 4cm deep. It is easily wiped down with warm soapy water if it needs a clean.
Please allow one week for the piece to be made. It will be posted Signed For and will arrive securely packaged with as much eco-friendly material as possible. It would make a thoughtful and beautiful gift for those who love landscapes, winter scenes and trees.
