The Rime is based on the poem The Ancient Mariner and shows the albatross flying above the rig of a sailing ship with the mariner looking up at the bird. It is an original monochrome Lino print finished in water based inks and printed on a hand press.

It is signed and titled in pencil by the artist.

It is a variable edition marked v/e denoting that every hand painted print is unique.
Picture size to fit an A4 frame
Printed on Fabriano paper using water based inks.
Colour fixed using a waterbased craft spray.
The colour may vary slightly from the image.

Proseprints is keen to be green, our printed greeting cards are on recycled paper, with bio-degradable cellos, we use paper based packaging and are introducing non-plastic packaging for protecting artwork. We also support a local conservation charity, donating money from the sales of our cards and artwork.

The Rime is part of the Nature in Poetry collection and inspired by Samual Taylor Coleridge epic poem 'The Ancient Mariner'. The image shows the albatross circling the mariner's ship, guided them through the ice flows before the fateful act of the bird being killed by the mariner with his cross bow. The poem was written in 1797-8 and promotes a message of caring for the environment - 'loveth well both man and bird and beast.' Coleridge was born in Devon and the poem's idea was conceived of whilst walking with Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy and some say that the harbour in Watchet in Somerset was the inspiration for the setting. It all feels very local to Proseprints and the message - very timely.
