Print and pattern most definitely hold a special place in my heart. As does the work of Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. She's spent her career covering paintings, sculptures and installations in dots. Her work has inspired many artists, including Andy Warhol.

According to Kusama: "Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos. Polka dots are a way to infinity. When we obliterate nature and our bodies with polka dots, we become part of the unity of our environment."

This bowl is a celebration of Kusama, a beloved Northerner known as Nannie Dot and of well-made, tasty porridge. The colour of the fired buff clay has a real warmth and natural beauty. I apply each dot individually by hand using a slip trailer. It's slow, meditative work that I can lose myself in.

Full description

There's nothing like tucking into a warm bowl of porridge on a cold morning. This Little Dot medium bowl feels utilitarian and also fun: a bit like the porridge we have in my house.

(In case it's of interest, the porridge we have in my house is called Pirate Porridge because there's always buried treasure inside. Depending on the day it could be peanut butter and jam, bananas and honey, cinnamon apple or even a 'gingerbread' style one with dates and mixed spice :)… ANYWAY, enough about oats: back to the story about the bowl.)

The Little Dot design is a nod to my family's favourite Northerner. This bowl has been thrown on the wheel using buff stoneware clay. I first applied a layer of grey/blue decorative slip, followed by a series of black polka dots individually by hand. The bowl has then been coated in transparent stoneware glaze.

This bowl has been fired at a high temperature to ensure it's hygienic and suitable for food/drink usage.

Things to note:

- Signed 'Gane' on the base

- Best to hand wash

- Size approx: 7cm H x 11cm W
