I am intrigued by the copper red glazes in Oriental ceramics such as those from Song dynasty. I have been trying to obtain the rich red colours that can be found on special pieces. There are only certain parts of the kiln where a uniform red colour can be achieved but the red and white marking of this mug does add a visual interest.

A red glaze breaking dramatically to white on a porcelain mug. The glaze is transparent on one outer side and deep red elsewhere, inside and out, reflecting the local variations of conditions within the kiln during the later stages of firing. The result is an elegant wheel-thrown porcelain mug with a raised hand centrally stamped internally. The foot is unglazed white porcelain, flat so that it does not retain dishwasher water, It was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- The mug is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 10cm tall and 8cm wide excluding the handle.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9683.
