The inspiration for this comes largely from cartoons and animated films where there is often a silly scene involving someone or something being bounced around between a pair of seals, usually wearing brightly coloured collars. The colours used aimed to capture the seal’s natural colour, its outfit and the watery landscape it naturally inhabits.

Full description

Seal is a cool and calming yarn that has been hand spun on Arwen, my Kromski Fantasia spinning wheel. It is a blend of naturally coloured white and grey wool combined with pale blue and green.

It is made from 100% Shetland wool. This wool comes from the UK and is very fine and easy to work with. It was traditionally used to make jumpers as it is hard wearing but can be used for any project.

For this yarn, two thirds of the white Shetland was dyed using acid dyes and citric acid while the rest of white was left as its natural colour. These three shades were blended on Igor, my drum carder, with natural grey Shetland to create batts ready for spinning.

100g, approx. 10 WPI, Worsted 3 ply, 85m

Every effort has been made to ensure that the photos show the true colours of the yarn but please bear in mind that every screen is different.

Yarn can be shipped as a ready-to-knit ball, please include a comment with your order if you would like this, otherwise it will be sent as pictured.
