I started spinning yarn as a way to relax. I'd been knitting and crocheting for several years but I needed something different so spinning seemed a good thing to try. I soon realised that I enjoyed having control over the yarns I made and used. I could adapt it to be perfect for whatever project I wanted in whatever colours I wanted to suit my tastes and needs.
My first forays into spinning were with a lovely top whorl drop spindle that I still use to this day. I started off with a sensitivity to wool and animal fibres, so I learnt with bamboo, cotton and ramie fibres. Eventually, I started spinning alpaca as I'd successfully knit with some alpaca yarn before gradually working my way into using sheep's wool. I'm thankfully now able to spin with most fibres, the only exception is mohair so don't be surprised if you never see that in my shop!
Nowadays, most of my spinning is done on a Kromski Fantasia wheel called Arwen. I have a little spinning corner in the living room, next to the cage that is the home of my pet mice. They will often come to the bars to see what I'm working on (and whether or not there's a chance they'll get given a sunflower seed for looking cute!)
My inspiration is drawn from many places - the world around me, experiences from my childhood, beautiful pictures and even people. I like to play with colour and have recently started dyeing some of my spinning fibres, finished yarns and silk embroidery threads, the best of which can be found in the shop.
