Inspiration for this yarn largely came from cartoons and animated movies. I wanted to convey the natural grey of the elephant while also bringing it into both the Big Top background and highlighting its naturally warm habitat, hence I decided on the red, yellow and white colours.

Full description

Elephant is a soft and delightful yarn that has been hand spun on Arwen, my Kromski Fantasia spinning wheel. It is a blend of naturally grey and white wool along with some pale red and yellow tones.

It is made from 100% Shetland Wool. Shetland wool is one of my personal favourites; it is fine but hard wearing and easy to work with.

For this yarn, I dyed two thirds of the white wool with acid dyes and citric acid and left the remaining wool in its natural colours. I then blended each colour (red, yellow and white) with grey on Igor, my drum carder, to create some lovely batts to spin.

100g, 10 WPI, Worsted 3 ply, 80m

Every effort has been made to ensure that the photos show the true colours of the yarn but please bear in mind that every screen is different.

Yarn can be shipped as a ready-to-knit ball, please include a comment with your order if you would like this, otherwise it will be sent as pictured.
