I love every aspect of the natural world, from its landscapes and colours to its plants and wildlife - hopefully that is reflected in my work.
The Red Kite panel is inspired by this majestic and once rare bird, and the Vale of Glamorgan countryside where it can now be seen flying. As a keen walker, the fields, woodland and wildlife around my home provides many ideas for fused glass pieces. I snap away on my phone as I walk, capturing scenes which I later use back in my workshop.
The panel aims to capture a snapshot of the summer countryside with its rolling fields and towering trees. My intention with this piece is to create a scene which can take the viewer into tranquil summer countryside, even if it is cold and snowy outside!

Full description
The semi-abstract scene in this Red Kite Landscape panel shows a trio of red kites circling over the woods and fields below. It is made in vibrant shades of green and with hand-painted oaks and birds plus a scattering of poppies in the foreground.
The piece can be placed on a windowsill so that when the sun shines through the glass, the colours of the scene are cast onto the surface in front of it. It can also be displayed against a plain pale wall where its colours can be appreciated in their true brightness.
Making the panel is a lengthy and fiddly process. I start by cutting and layering sheet glass which is then fused together in my kiln overnight. More glass and additional details are added before firing a second time.
The panel is 25 cm high and 12 cm wide, and comes with its own attractive custom-made wooden stand. Should the glass need a clean, it is easily wiped down with warm soapy water.
For delivery, your parcel and stand will be packed separately; the piece is easily put together by slotting the glass into the grooves of the mounting pegs and gently tightening the fixing screws to hold it in place. Your artwork will be sent Signed For and will arrive securely packaged in as much eco-friendly material as possible.
