Hello everyone, we're in strange times at the moment. I will be sending items within the 3 days of receipt of payment, unless there are any changes to guidelines that mean I am not able to head to my local post office (at the moment their current restricted hours means they are open mornings only). All items are sent Royal Mail first class, but not tracked.
CHRISTMAS POST: The last date I will be posting items will be Friday 18th December
This embroidery hoop features my jackdaw art work. A watercolour and free motion embroidery image of a jackdaw in flight.
One of our cheeky British birds that hang around homes, fields and farms and chatter out to us.
The jackdaw has been created by drawing with watercolour pencils & paint, then adding detail with freehand/motion machine embroidery. You can scroll through the images to see the work as I made it.
Freehand machine embroidery is a bit like drawing with your sewing machine. Guiding your fabric around under your machine needle to recreate an image. Swapping thread colours to get all the detailing.
The piece is stretched and framed in a hoop and then I hand stitch a felt backing onto the rear of the hoop, along with my Emma Gatehouse label, so that it's all tidied up.
A beautiful piece of textile art work for your wall.
The hoop is approx 19cm / 7 inches.
Perfect for bird lovers.
All artwork ©EmmaGatehouse and may not be redistributed without permission.
I go for cycle rides and like to make a list of the creatures that I see on my trips out and about. I often see jackdaws with their shiny silvery head and bright beady blue eyes. This was a piece where I sketched out the bird with watercolour on the cotton fabric, then added detail with free motion stitches.
