An elegant blue porcelain jar with colour variations reflecting the melting and thickness of the glaze on the lid top and in the stamped and wheel-made markings. A waving figure in brush-applied metallic black is depicted on the top of the lid. The glaze is transparent blue where thin and rich blue if thick. The inside is decorated with texture marks and a raised hand. This wheel thrown jar is perfect for spices, condiments, herbs, keys, buttons or your small precious items. The jar was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- The jar is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 10cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9819.
The hand stamped inside and the waving figure on the lid make this jar an appropriate greetings present. I particularly enjoy making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. I make my jars with a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The top of the lid is slightly concave to retain a layer of glaze in the wheel-made texture marks and there are brush-applied dashes of iron oxide to add visual interest. The unglazed underside is texture-decorated for additional enjoyment when handling.
